Wilder: #964, A thing, an article... wu4 phonetic, a negative, do not; a flag with three pennons, usually used to indicate a prohibition. [The radical, ] an ox was the most valuable asset in ancient times. The addition of the flag to the ox may have indicated its importance -- it was not to be disposed of. This character is now used for any article, regardless of value.
